FAQs

How is a FamilyIntel book summary different than a book review?

FamilyIntel book summaries provide busy families with key ideas and essential information from significant parenting, marriage, and family relationship books.  These FREE summaries each consist of just 3500-4000 words -- the length of a Time or Newsweek magazine cover story.  Busy parents can read them while sitting at the computer or can print and finish them while traveling or waiting for an appointment.  As opposed to book reviews, summaries consist of direct excerpts from the book, not unnecessary comments or opinions about the book.

What are the advantages of FamilyIntel book summaries?

FamilyIntel book summaries provide many advantages to today’s busy families.  These FREE summaries:

  • Build Knowledge.  FamilyIntel book summaries provide the opportunity to save or print summaries and use them later as reference guides.  Building a library of summaries allows you to go back and review key concepts without re-reading the entire book.
  • Prioritize Reading.  Many great parenting, marriage, and family relationship books are published each year.  FamilyIntel book summaries equip you to determine which books have the solutions that fit your situation and deserve to be read fully.

How does FamilyIntel select books to summarize?

While scores of parenting and family relationship books are in print, FamilyIntel only selects 52 to summarize and highlight each year.  In making these selections, we monitor best-seller lists, read book reviews, look at subject matter, and listen to suggestions.  We look at newly-published books, as well as classics with tried and tested solutions.  We have no affiliation with any single publishing house.  However, if you are an author or publisher and would like FamilyIntel to consider a summary of your book, please contact us.

How do authors react to summaries of their work?

A myriad of parenting, marriage, and family relationship books are published each year.  With such competition for the public’s attention, most authors appreciate the additional exposure our service provides their work.  As stated in each summary, FamilyIntel secures express written permission from publishers and/or authors prior to reproducing any of their copyrighted material.

Should I still read the book after the FamilyIntel book summary?

Most of the books that FamilyIntel summarizes are worth reading from cover to cover.  However, we understand busy families cannot read them all.  By taking a few minutes to read the book summary first, you will know whether a particular book applies to your particular situation and whether you should devote more time to it.  If you like the main ideas in the summary, we encourage you to use the link at the end of the summary to purchase the book.
